Dorothy Baird HG.Dip.P, MHGI
I began training in counselling in 2003 with a COSCA certificate in counselling skills. Then, having discovered the Human Givens approach to psychotherapy, I decided that this was the approach I wanted to pursue. I was particularly impressed by the way it is based in neurological science, uses a wide range of techniques that have all been proven to work and is very practical, creative and effective.
After attending the HG programme of seminars and workshops. (See http://www.humangivenscollege.com for more information.), I passed my Human Givens diploma with distinction in 2006 and have been working since then out of this approach. When I gained my Post Graduate diploma, I joined the official register of HG therapists in the UK. You can find a list of registered HG therapists on the Human Givens Institute's website: http://www.hgi.org.uk
I feel very privileged to play a part in helping people feel better in themselves - it is a wonderful feeling to see each person blossom more fully into themselves.
I'm also a published poet and lead occasional creative writing workshops in the community. One day a week I tutor creative writing groups with adults with mental health difficulties (in a support centre and in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital). This work helps to bring a very positive balance to my therapy.
I have three children, now in their early twenties.
I abide by the professional conduct and ethics policy of the Human Givens Institute and have an enhanced disclosure.
